The canine countenance which graces our 19th hole belongs to Beth & Bill Sandri's prize pooch "Zeke". The story behind how Zeke became the official "Crumpin-Fox Hound" dates back to early May, 1991, when over a period of a week or more, a skinny black and tan puppy was seen around the golf course, particularly in the area of the dumpster.
He ate, slept and made many friends- and even one enemy, when he snatched a members tee shot from the 14th fairway and deposited it in an adjacent bunker (Rub of the Dog!). Yet despite many hospitable overtures, the hesitant hound would not accept anyone's invitation to provide a more permanent living arrangement.
After playing golf on the day before Mother's Day, Bill came onto the back deck overlooking the 18th green and found him snuggled in Beth's lap munching on his second or third hot dog. And so it came to pass that Bill gave Beth a fur coat for Mother's Day, the only catch was that there was a dog inside of it!
Since then Zeke has slept at the feet of Robert Trent Jones, introduced his own line of clothing, accumulated many frequent flyer miles while supervising his second "Trent Jones" course in Florida, and developed a surprisingly acute taste for single malt scotch. "Bone Appetite!"
P.S. Zeke the "Philanthropooch" is pleased to donate part of the profits from the sale of his clothing line to the Greenfield Area Animal Shelter.
